For Immediate Release
10 June 2003
Yukon College and Yukon Convention Bureau (YCB) are pleased
to announce that the Tourism Educators Consortium (TEC) will
host its 2005 annual conference in Whitehorse. This will
be the first time that the TEC will be hosting this annual
conference North of 60! Tentative dates for the meetings are
28 April –- 1 May, 2005.
This annual meeting typically features approximately 150 delegates along with accompanying family members. The most recent conference was hosted at Sun Peaks Resort near Kamloops, in interior BC, where Craig Hansen, Coordinator of Tourism Programs at Yukon College successfully pitched Yukon as the 2005 meeting destination. Hansen credits much of the success of the proposal to the Yukon Convention Bureau, particularly their tendering processes, expertise of the staff and the site inspection visit they conducted in April of last year with Mr. Dave Donaldson who headed the TEC organizing committee at that time. “Craig, do you want to put a quote in here?”
The Yukon Convention Bureau calculates that the 3-day meeting will generate approximately $90,000 in direct spending for the Territory. “We are so pleased to have been able to help Yukon College in their efforts to secure the 2005 TEC conference. For the Yukon to be successful as a meetings destination we need local businesses like Yukon College to go out and convince their colleagues to come to the Yukon”, said Paul Choquette, YCB President.
