Canada’s YUKON and the SOUTHERN
LAKES REGION reflect
the History, Culture and Adventure known as the GOLD RUSH
OF 1898. We are located within the headwaters of the Yukon
River
that transported it’s original miners and pioneer adventurers
looking for the end of the rainbow.
We still consider ourselves at the ‘End of the Rainbow’ in
beauty, wilderness, wildlife and adventure. In the Southern
Lakes, the wilderness is yours, just LISTEN.
From the over 5000 foot mountain peaks, rivers to the bearing
sea, mountain creeks and canyons to the Tundra and Alpine
meadows, you will be in awe. Wildlife remains abundant
and visible at certain times of the year or by shear luck. The
ancient cultures are being rediscovered along with the languages,
stories and historic lifestyles, as taught by the elders
today.
Bordering the City of Whitehorse, the Southern Lakes Region
provides an abundance of resources to satisfy a wide range
of northern adventurer and once in a lifetime experience seeker.
Each of our six communities provides you with different stories,
culture, attractions and adventure to fill your holiday with
memories. Travel the Tundra and Alpine Meadows of the
South Canol for an afternoon or overnight camp. Hike Atlin,
BC’s Llewelyn Glacier. Tour the historic travel routes
by boat, bus or dog sled tour and see first hand the tallest
peaks, the rapidly changing environments from pacific coastal
to boreal forest and unique climatic deserts. Experience
northern theatre in the summer and our September through April
northern lights. The options for accommodation, food, wine
and hospitality are abundant and reflect our lifestyle of peace,
freedom and personal choice amidst one of the last frontiers. We
welcome you as guests to our Southern Lakes Region to experience
and LISTEN.
