FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 1, 2008

The Golden Bravo Award was presented to Up North Adventures, a local adventure tour operator, at the Yukon Convention Bureau’s Annual General Meeting this month. The Award is sponsored annually by Northwestel and recognizes an organization or individual who has demonstrated outstanding service in the meetings and events industry.

Up North Adventures has been based in the Yukon for some fifteen years, growing from a small operation to a full-service company which provides top quality tours for visitors and Yukoners alike. Open for business on a year-round basis, the company offers a variety of packages as diverse as guided canoe and kayak trips, summer fishing excursions, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, skiing, ice fishing, and aurora viewing. The company conducts adventure schools for kayaking, canoeing, avalanche training, and wilderness first aid, and as well, operates a store featuring a broad range of outdoor equipment.

Local tour and adventure businesses provide exciting ‘add-ons’ to conventions held in the Yukon. For many meeting-goers, an opportunity to attend an event in the Territory allows them to extend their experience into the ‘trip of a lifetime’. The many options for pre-and post-conference activities is an important selling point to meeting organizers. One of the planners consulted for nominations for the Golden Bravo Award provided this tribute:

“In particular, we nominate Up North Adventures for the Golden Bravo Award for going out of their way to accommodate [our] request. This required them to collaborate with 2 other companies (boats and guides for the river transportation) and coordinate with our dinner reservation while ensuring the trip and activities were not rushed and enjoyable. Much creativity went into organizing the activities and they went the extra mile to ensure everything was memorable and went without a hitch. A lot to fit into the time allotted for the event. Many participants still comment on what a great time they had.”

In addition to the Golden Bravo, Northwestel also sponsors the yearly Bravo Awards which acknowledge the important contribution of Yukon-based meeting planners. This company’s support of service quality in the conventions and meetings industry is well known and goes a long way to helping the Yukon Convention Bureau continually strive for top quality products.
