Who
are we?
The Yukon Convention Bureau (YCB) is a membership-based Destination
Marketing Organization (DMO) charged with marketing
Yukon as a favorable destination for meetings and events both
within Yukon and outside the Territory. YCB members believe
it is vital to develop a sustainable meeting and event
industry for our community, to enhance the quality of life
of all Yukoners. We do this by encouraging Yukoner's
to host a meeting "at home" and targeting the following
sectors: Government – 4 levels, Associations, Corporate,
Incentive, Sport and Culture.
The Yukon Convention Bureaus has
many initiatives by which
we “sell” or market the Yukon
Our marketing activities include:
• Developing marketing partnerships
• Attending trade shows
• Conducting direct sales calls
• Organizing familiarization tours, and site inspections
• Holding trade memberships and conducting promotional activities
• Advertising in a variety of mediums
• Preparing lure brochures and other publications
•
Developing and maintaining
a website
• Conducting research and other related programs
• Educating our members
What is the process?
• YCB attends various tradeshows
and conducts sales missions in different market places
• During these we work
the show, conduct sales calls and host client events
•
At these various events, we network and meet with clients to introduce
them to the possibility of hosting a meeting in the Yukon by showing them
promotional
materials and casting the “spell of the Yukon” over them!
• From those networking
opportunities and sales calls, the client asks us for a request for proposal
(RFP)
• We send the RFP to our
membership who compile quotes and send back to YCB
• Then that information
is complied into a bid or proposal and sent to the client with various other
information (what to do and see, etc., etc.)
• A follow up process is
completed
• The client forwards a
response – yes or no to Yukon as the host destination
• A press release is written
and sent out to all media sources
• If we win the bid, the
file is passed to our Client Relations Manager for group servicing
A meeting planner receives a number of benefits through the group
servicing program. As
a result meeting planners are less hesitant to invite their groups to the Yukon.
It’s always nice to know that the Yukon Convention Bureau there to help!
Once a group has been confirmed, we can assist the planner with
the resources and professional support needed to make the event
an outstanding success.
• Ensure Hotel availability
through exclusive Member Request for Proposals (RFP's)
• Organize and conduct
site inspections with and for the planner
• Provide assistance in
setting up the planning committee
• Offer member suggestions for timing, themes, locations, events and
pre-post convention tours
Group Servicing:
• Assist the planner in locating suppliers by providing the YCB membership
directory
• Our members - Over 100 local members ranging from Hotels to Communication
businesses, YTG-Tourism and Culture, City of Whitehorse, Haines Junction, City
of Dawson,
Town of Watson Lake, Southern Lakes, Air North and Air Canada. The
Yukon Convention Bureau is your center for one stop Convention Expert shopping.
