Who
are we?
The Yukon Convention Bureau (YCB) is a membership-based Destination
Marketing Organization (DMO) charged with marketing
Yukon as a favorable destination for meetings and events both
within Yukon and outside the Territory. YCB members believe
it is vital to develop a sustainable meeting and event
industry for our community, to enhance the quality of life
of all Yukoners. We do this by encouraging Yukoner's
to host a meeting "at home" and targeting the following
sectors: Government – 4 levels, Associations, Corporate,
Incentive, Sport and Culture.
The Yukon Convention Bureau uses many techniques to ‘sell’ the Yukon
Our marketing activities include:
• Developing marketing partnerships
• Attending trade shows
• Hosting client events
• Advertising in a variety of media
• Conducting direct sales calls
• Organizing familiarization tours, and site inspections
• Holding trade memberships and conducting promotional activities
• Advertising in a variety of mediums
• Preparing lure brochures and other publications
•
Developing and maintaining
a website
• Conducting research and other related programs
• Educating our members
What is the process?
YCB staff use the tradeshows, sales missions, and clients events to build contact lists and to generate interest in bringing conventions and other events to the Yukon.
Potential clients, interested in bringing an event to the Territory, ask YCB to issue RFP’s to suppliers
YCB sends out requests for proposals to its members and then compiles the responses into a “bid”.
The bid (comprised of price quotes, information about the Yukon and the host community, messages from local dignitaries, and so on), is sent to the prospective client.
The client may be considering several other locations and may be planning for several years ahead.
When a favourable decision is made – to hold the event in the Yukon – a press release is written and sent out to all media sources.
The file is then passed to YCB’s Client Relations Manager for “Group Servicing”.
Meeting planners receive a number of benefits through the group servicing program:
• Work with the planner to confirm hotel availability
• Assist in locating various suppliers from our YCB directory
• Assist with air access issues
• Organize and conduct site inspections with or for the planner
• Offer suggestions for timing, themes, locations, events and pre-post convention tours
• Provide delegate welcome kits
